In-Depth Photo Illustrations

This picture is showing the young ones and a adult hands showing love, care for one another making a "family".

I like this picture because just the though you get out of this is very attention catching and the lighting couldn't get better.

This is a painting of a speedboat going across a lake, and with a huge monument in the background creating a nice scenery.

I like this picture because the whole picture seems really peaceful and the color is great.

This is a two people that happen to be dating and one of them is a non-smoker and the other is a smoker, showing that the girl dislikes the smell of smoke.

I like this picture because the couple have different opinions on smoking as you can tell, and the distortion is the smoke, it is fake but helps you understand the picture.

This is showing a girl being fed grapes its realistic but yet also artistic because it is dramatic in my eye.

I like this picture because its detailed and the subject fits what is being showed here.

Photo Essay Preview

First Person Documentary:
My favorite was called "My Dad" because the photo essay was well put together and it had lots of detail and from listening to the video, i learned a lot about the girls dad and what his interests were and his job.

Narrated Documentary:
My Favorite was called "My home Life" I liked this one because her life seems very realated to others, and she explains about her hard working parents and the children they have including herself.

Introspective Photographer:
My Favorite was called "Houston Homeless" because it explained every picture that popped up and it was well put together.

Action Photography Words

Zone Focus - Is a focus on a certain area where action will take place, and taking the picture when a object comes in the zone will be a focused shot.

Shutter Speed - It is controlling the lighting and quality of a photograph. For freezing action you will need a shutter speed 200 or higher however it wouldn't have much depth, a slower shutter speed gives you more depth.

Panning - Using the camera and following a object trying to cature a photo, creating a blury background and a focused shot on the object.

Waiting For The Pause - Waiting for a change in action. Ex. A change in route of a football player

I like 11 because i thought the quality in the shot was very detailed and the lighting was right for the angle it was taken. The building in the background and in the foreground plays a huge part because it limits harsh light and creates great shadow :]

Travis Haugton

Main Focus: Children & Sports

Problems From Judges: Repetitive Type of Photos, Children, And Easy Photos

What the Judges like: Different angles & catch the moment

What Is You Overall Impression? I thought this person needs much work on shooting and telling a story.

Sam Adams

Main Focus: Sports & Outdoors

Problems From Judges: Too much photoshop, bad timing

What judges like: sport moments, story

What is your overall impression? I though this person done a well done job but a little brush up on timing his pictures.

Justin Mott

Main Focus: Children & Depression

Problems from the judges: Black & white, repetitive shots, and similar shots

What the judges like: Great detail & quality is great

What was your overall impression? I thought this person was a great photographer but needed a better topic and different shots on different subjects.

Nick Adams

Main Focus: People & Sports

Problems From judges: Boring shots, Children

What the judges like: good quality and fire shots

What was your overall impression? I thought this person was good overall but needed a better angle on pictures.

Watch the winning portfolio critique (Dustin Snipes), and post the following:
What did the judges note as strengths as they were critiquing it? His photography is not only on one subject, but also on different sports, also his creativity. Different types of sport and angles that fitted the and also had a story to it.

What do you see as strengths? Do you see any weaknesses? I see creativity as a strength if you use it well, and i saw as a weakness was not wrong use of lighting.

Individual Images
1. Describe one photo that you agree with the judges on. Explain why you and the judges do or do not like it
The one with the two guys wrestling, because it would have been much better if the picture wasn't so tight and if the other wrestler was showing in the picture more, however the judges like it because of the face expression, but i think it takes much more for a good photo.

2. Describe one photo that you do NOT agree with the judges on. Explain why you think the judges are wrong.

I like the one with the ski-mobile because it was very creative and shot a a amazing way even though the judges didn't favor it much, the judges didn't like it because it was not showing muhc of a story.

Poems/Portrait

I read for about ten minutes and the best poem i read was the one called "Dreams" because to me its the only one that makes real sense and pretty much good word choice.

The best picture as well is muhammad ali, its a informal picture of him, the light shooting on him is coming at a angle to create also shadow to give off great texture of the photo.

Cover History

Early Magazine Covers

This is a magazine cover coming from the mid 1700's. This is a very early edition of what was called a magazine, even though it doesn't appear much like todays magazine covers that we know. The so called cover wasn't really what i call a cover but the table of contents, the table of contents is the front page.

The Poster Cover

This cover is from the year "1929", a magazine that is filled with outdoor activities and much more about the outdoor life. The cover is much more updated and as a painted photo of a lynx. There is still somewhat differences in this cover with todays magazine.

Pictures Married To Type

A cover in the 1940's-1950's, very deatiled as in wording and pictures used or picked for the cover. In this time the front cover photo had a quote or "caption" that went with the photo. Various color and wording were used for advertisment and to grab the peoples attention.

In The Forest Of Words

Now this is a much better update on how todays magazine looks like. MANY advertisment is used all over the cover and a bold title for the company of the magazine, to show where the magazine is coming from.
